Back after the week off we hosted Hay for Round 11. Our U12 team battled through some tough damp and foggy conditions. It didn’t dampen their spirit as they entered the rooms to sing the song after the game.
The U14.5’s suffered their first loss for the season going down in low scoring encounter. The conditions no doubt played a role in this as the fog was still thick and the ball like a cake of soap. Cooper Hein and Parker Bray were our best for the day as we went down by 12pts.
The U17.5’s were playing off for 4th spot on the ladder. We welcomed back the Leahy brothers, home for the holidays and also Jett Funnell for his first game. Despite their endeavour, the Hay outfit were too strong for our boys. Riley Carse put in his best game in recent weeks and Chase Coulter continued his strong form.
The Reserve team had a battle all day and were on the back foot at times. Credit to them they were able to wrestle back momentum and control the game to finish 6pts up at the final siren. Josh Bray was pivotal as a forward target as was Toby Frankel. The Midfielders; Simon Morton, Brett McCombe and Matt Davies were also instrumental in keeping our noses in front at the final siren.
Our Senior team fronted up against the reigning premiers and league leaders with a desire to compete. The guys were great in the first quarter, winning a number of clearances and hitting the scoreboard. Lampi, O’Toole and McKerrow were great through the midfield and Shannahan and Wade at opposite ends. Unfortunately, we were unable to make the most of our opportunities in the second quarter and it was telling. The second half wasn’t much to write about as Hay put us to the sword.
In the netball, our U12 began with foggy and chilly conditions. Our young guns all worked well together and provided lots of encouragement to each other. Awards this week went to Pippy, Maya, Charlotte, Emily and Indigo.
Our U14’s ended their winning streak and endured their first loss of the season. With a couple of our players away and taking on the always strong Hay team, we had to readjust. Down by just 4 goals at the end of half time, we tried hard to fight back however Hay were too strong, narrowly beating our girls by 6 goals. Our hard-working defenders in Jorja Danson and Ella Henry both worked tirelessly to defend their opponents and apply pressure all over the court. Lexi McKnight played a crucial part in bringing the ball down to our attackers and Lyla Morton played strong in defence before moving to goals.
The U17’s faced a challenging day going up against the top team. Hay gained a strong lead early in the game and our girls continued to fight but unfortunately, we couldn’t match their pace ultimately going down 15 to 57. Across the court, Georgia Carse played a tight game in defence, Emily Burrows moved well in goals and Belle Morton used her speed and fed accurately to the attackers.
After 3 weeks off, our C Grade girls were itching to get back out on the court. Holding an impressive 12 goal lead by the end of the first quarter, they continued to soar up the scoreboard and won convincingly 51 to 38. Alesha Millard displayed smart leads in the mid court before transitioning to defence where she made life tough for the opponents’ goalies and Lyla Morton provided some slick moves in goals for her second game of the day.
In the B res, we were able to get the jump early, taking a 5 goal lead by the end of the first quarter, although Hay were never far behind. We managed to continue building throughout the game and secured a 10 goal win. Nicole Henry was a tough competitor in the defensive goal ring and Sharni Maher was quick and used her fast pace to beat her opponent.
The B Grade had a slow start to the game, allowing Hay to gain a 4-goal lead by the end of the first quarter. Our girls worked hard and began building momentum to lead by 4 goals half time. The girls managed to win 54 to 34. Montana Keating used her speed and quick moves in the ring to slot an impressive 38 goals for the game while Kayla Casey’s great elevation and quick hands made it difficult for the Hay attackers to score.
In the A Grade, the team had an impressive 40 goal win against Hay. The team were put through their paces early against the physical and competitive Hay team however they never took their foot off the pedal. Mila Bray had a dynamite game in defence snatching intercepts and positioned herself perfectly for rebounds while Steph Reeves lead clearly down the court and provided precise and swift feeds into the goal ring.
