Round 8

Our U12’s were without their Coach Matt Webb who in the words of Nash was busy…. Well Brydie was busy not sure about Matt. Congratulations to the whole Webb crew welcoming little Navy Elizabeth into the world over the weekend.

Our U15’s were at their dominant best, not more so than Cooper Hein and Parker Bray. The well drilled outfit were exquisite in the their ball movement linking up handballs and executing their skills efficiently. Mercy Rule was in during the 2nd qtr and me managed to keep the bombers scoreless.

Best: Cooper Hein, Parker Bray, Will Turner, Jed McDonald, Evan McNeil & Jobe Hein.

Our U18’s were much more competitive this time with some fantastic pressure and defence. Matched with their desire to get the ball forward. Xav Murray and Zane McKerrow adjudged best for our lads. Henry Ellison was a determined defender all day.

Best: Xavier Murray, Zane McKerrow, Parker Bray, Henry Ellison, Jack Keath & Jobe Hein.

Reserves faced a determined Wandella fighting to stay in the top four. It would be our first half that set the game up this time. We managed to kick 4 straight to their 1.5, well done to our defenders for their pressure. Luke Murphy lead the defenders and set up many forward thrusts alongside Mr. Consistent Darcy Gillen. Zac McClure-Page showed us why he was on the AFL recruiters radar as an U11 with some miraculous goals and express pace, getting the job done.

Best: Luke Murphy, Simon Morton, Zac McClure-Page, Archer McKnight, Matt Davies & James Harvey

Our Seniors were in control from the outset, with some scintillating ball movement setting up a 6 goal to 2 first half. We did relax a little in the last allowing Wandella to Kick 5 to our 2 goals. Ben Derbas had his best game for the year as did Ethan Slater, to be fair it was his first. Bailey Pengelly topped the stats also with 2 goals to go with it. Great feeling to leave the Hill with a win.

Best: Ben Derbas, Jack Shannahan, Ethan Slater, James Stewart, Bailey Pengelly & Sam Copland

In the netball, it was a clean sweep across all grades starting with our under 12’s who are improving each and every week. Awards this week went to Emily, Indi and Mahli.

The Under 14’s were able to set the tone for the day. After establishing a 5 goal lead at the end of the first quarter, there was no stopping them as they soared up the scoreboard to win by 16 goals. Elada Jaques and Eve Murray were both extremely vital in the mid court, both making great space and leads down the court. Ella Henry is having a stellar season as one of the teams top defenders and this week was no exception, with her classy defensive skills on full display. A special mention to Jorja Danson and Harper Budjoso who shot an impressive 35 goals between the two of them.

Our Under 17s continue to prove why they are the most dominant team in the 17s competition this year. By halftime the girls held a 37 goal lead, eventually running away with an incredible 63 goal. What a win! Belle Morton was a standout through the midcourt, controlling the play with precision. At opposite ends of the court, Macy Bray and Georgia Carse were dominant in the goal rings — Macy showcasing her accuracy and movement in the shooting circle, while Georgia applied relentless pressure and picked off countless turnovers in defence.

It was sweet revenge for our C Grade side as they bounced back in style against the Bombers, redeeming themselves from their previous encounter. A strong opening quarter saw the girls take an early 6-goal lead, and while the Bombers stayed hot on their heels, our team held firm. A dominant third quarter saw the margin pushed out, and the girls sealed the deal in the final term to come away with a 14 goal win. Jess Morrow played wonderfully in the mid court, constantly providing direction and fantastic feeding to the goalies in the ring and Ivy Shae was reliable and composed throughout the game.

The B res team were challenged from the get go as Wandella took the lead early in the first half of the game. Taylah Collier’s infectious energy and her hunger rippled through the rest of the team as they were able to take back the lead in the third quarter. Bainli Galway dictated the defensive goal circle and was a tough opponent for the Bombers attackers as she continue to limit their goaling opportunities assisting in the teams 7 goal win.

B grade were able to add another W to the list. The girls held an 8 goal lead at the end of the first quarter and had a phenomenal second quarter, resulting in Wandella only scoring four goals for that quarter. Ashea Budjoso and Sarah Perry were among the best, as they provided leadership across the court, beautiful feeds into our goalies and persistent defensive pressure to their opponents. A solid last quarter allowed the girls to beat Wandella by 21 goals.

Wandella came out firing in the A grade and were hungry for the win. By the end of the first quarter, we were up by 1 goal and only up by 2 at half time. No where near enough to become complacent. After a pep talk by coach Kalinda (and possibly a bribe of a cocktail or two) the team were up and about. Emelia Shannahan led by example on the court and was a constant threat to her opponents as she once again displayed her versatility. Lauren Morrow’s second efforts and constant chases all over the court were exceptional, inspiring the rest of the team to dig deep and push the lead out to an 18 goal win.
