Round 6
Back at home once again and the U12’s kicked the day off as usual, with loads of laughs, kicks, handballs and goals! A great way to start the day.
Our U15’s was a funny old start, not sure if it was the damp dewy conditions or not but the lads put through 10 points before they managed to kick their first goal… in the second quarter! From there it was an avalanche of goals kicking 10.1 to enforce the mercy rule once again.
Best: Jobe Hein, Blake O’Halloran, Jed McDonald, Parker Bray, Leo Ellison & Bear Bangay
The U18 team were competitive against the tigers with some support from a couple of Raiders our guys built a competitive score and followed the game plan well.
Best: Leo Ellison, Cooper Hein, Jed McDonald, Jobe Hein, Riley Carse & Henry Ellison
Our Reserves were keen to turn around a 1-point loss to Macorna in round 1. With a few players out, it was the inclusion of Matt Webb for his 350th club game that evoked a spirit to rise to the occasion. Bluey was super effective across half back. With Josh Morrow, Matt Davies and Luke Murphy dominant through the middle it would be the move of Jack Keath along with Jackson Brady forward that would be the game changer. Our boys running away with a 5-goal lead by the final siren.
Best: Brett McCombe, Josh Morrow, Matt Davies, Luke Murphy, Jack Keath & Nathan Morrow.
Our Senior team were keen to maintain the top 4 spot and played our best quarter for the year clamming home 6 first quarter goals take the game on early. Our Half’s were super impressive, Sam Copland across Half forward and Austin McKerrow across half back. 7 players on the goal kicker list was also a great sign with Adam Thomson with 4 the player to find the big sticks the most.
Best: Sam Copland, Austin McKerrow, Bailey Pengelly, Adam Thomson, Logan McKinnon & Jordan Lampi.
In the netball, it was another beautiful day to take the court and secure a clean sweep across all grades. First up, our Under 12’s. These little legends continue to impress with their growth and determination week after week. Awards this week went to, Jade, Zoe, Mabel, Pippy and Mia.
The Under 14’s had a red-hot start, in front by 2 at the end of the first quarter. Macorna responded strongly in the second, edging ahead by a single goal at halftime. Frankie Bray and Imi Collier continued to work hard in attack while Paisely Fisher-Couzens was a standout in defence, providing some valuable turnovers and strong arms The girls dug deep and finished the match with a determined final quarter to come away with a 3 goal win.
Our Under 17’s managed to keep Macorna to just 3 goals at the end of the first quarter. Georgia Carse was dominant and disciplined in defence, making life extremely hard for Macorna’s goalies. The girls continued to chip away and rocket up the score board. Macy Bray displayed her silky skills in the goal ring and Evie McKnight was a dual threat on the court, reliable on the goal ring in attack and a ruthless opponent in defence. We took home the win in a 51 goal victory.
The C Grade were met with a fiery Macorna in the first half of the game but were able to keep level headed. Grace Mathers is slotting in nicely to our mid court team and was well supported by Jess Morrow as the pair worked tirelessly down the court to create opportunities for the team. Tegan
O’Dowd proved unstoppable at times, constantly challenging the opposition and helping to seal our 16 goal win.
The B res had their third win of the season, and managed to secure some well-deserved revenge against the Tigers. Holding a narrow 2 goal lead at halftime, the team came out firing after the break, finding another gear and surging ahead by 9 goals. Bainli Galway dominated in defence, using her height and long limbs to secure intercepts and provided fantastic hands over pressure to win back the ball. Alyce Mathers slotted an easy 27 goals for the game as she continues to be a crucial leader within the team.
B grade had a close first quarter, in front by only 1 goal when the whistle blew. With some encouragement and wise words from the coach at the break, the girls kicked it up a notch and flew up the scoreboard, so much so that apparently the scorer struggled to keep the board up to date. New recruits Lily Bath and Jess Ryan were instrumental in the team’s 24 goal win.
A Grade took a little while to find their footing, trailing by 3 goals at the first break. The team were determined and hungry for the win and returned to the court with fire in their bellies. Alexis McKnight was an absolute powerhouse in attack, continuously driving to the ring and chasing every loose ball, whilst Emelia Shanahan continues to prove her versatility as she swung from defence to attack. The team found their rhythm and were able to bring home a 20 goal win. Special mention to Sadie Spitty who made her A grade debut and slotted into the team seamlessly. Just another example of the incredible talent we have in our junior ranks.
