Macorna Round 6
A Grade
Another glimpse of the team’s ability, Winning the first round by 3 points against the top side.
We have to focus on the positives and the small wins.
Imogen again tore up the court in GD & C. With turnovers & continues pressure every quarter.
Hannah played a beautiful game on a super tall, tough opponent. Not once did Han let her get under her skin nor did she loose focus. Her moving & shooting was on point.
MFNC & Kat Robbo Award - Imogen Broad & Macorna Towel - Hannah Dee
B Grade
Tough day for the girls. They started off strong with great play but unfortunately letting it slip.
Again Stacey found her grove in GK reading the play, getting intercepts and her versatility to be able to work smart with Holly & then Brooke. (Awarded - Avenue Health)
With some changes after the 2nd quarter Brooke coming into GD adding that extra needed presence & hustle in the defence end. (Awarded - Kookaburra Massage)
Special mention to Jess & Meg, they kept their sprits hug and fought till the end.
Bres
We were back playing our game today. We moved the ball down the court with ease and applied defensive pressure when it was needed.
Treen being solid up the attack end, consistent goals, great feeds into the ring and always there for a rebound. Taylah applying great defensive pressure in the mid court and when asked to get an intercept she delivered.
Awards
Taylah - Ave Health + Allure Bar
Katrina - Kimmys Cafe
C grade
From the moment the whistle blew Tenielle stepped out ready to play. She took the lead up the attack end and ensured that our opportunities lead to goals. The team as a whole applied some fantastic defensive pressure all down the court that lead to many turnovers. Deb playing an ever-consistent game in WA with her zippy leads and accurate feeds into the ring.
Awards
Tenielle - Ave Health + MMWFP
Deb - Kimmys Cafe
Under 17
Up against a tough Murrabit side, we battled out the 4 qtrs with grit and determination. We are all still learning how to play together as a team and still putting into practice what we learn at training.
Flick came away with the award for her talk on court and her rebounds in the ring and Georgie for her accuracy in the ring.
A week off now will be a good reset for us all!
Under 14
Our girls had another close game this week, finishing the game down by 3.
The defensive pressure all over the court was outstanding and resulted in many turnovers. We are very happy that what we are working on at training is being implemented into our games. Our girls shine every single week!
Best on was Ruby Carter and Breeze Star - Rubes played a ripper game in WD, giving her player no space and taking a few cheeky intercepts. Breeze got switched from shooter to GK and got intercept after intercept on a strong goalie, was amazing to watch!
Under 12
Another tough game against a really strong and much taller Murrabit side, but we were proud that the girls all tried their best the whole game.
The defenders saw most of the action this week but our attackers still worked hard to get the ball into the ring for some scoring opportunities.
Awards this week went to:
Stella (tiger cash) for trying her hardest in GK and GD despite being more than a foot shorter than her opponents and still managing to get into good positions and taking some intercepts.
Ayla for being ever consistent and strong in all areas of the court. She shot most of our goals and was a key player in moving the ball down the court.
Football:
Under 15’s:
The trip over to Murrabit to take on the ladder leaders was always going to be a tough one, with a few boys unavailable this week.
To apply pressure for four quarters was the pre-game instruction and the boys really worked hard to achieve this. In the first quarter the backline and mids worked hard to reduce the flow of goals. The pressure down back from Elliot, Kohen and Archer kept Murrabit’s goal efficiency at bay giving Jobe plenty of kicking out practice.
In the second we started to get more of the ball with Mitch and Harry working hard through the midfield although we struggled to penetrate deep forward whilst Murrabit started to find better accuracy.
In the third we didn’t have the same level of pressure and this was reflective on the scoreboard, however Jacoby found a way through to score our only major before the mercy rule.
Really happy with the development and team work of the boys. Keep up the good work.
Reserves:
What a great day for football at the Murrabit Rec Reserve. The 2's started well and kept the pressure on for 3 quarters, only to fall away in the last as Murrabit kicked a few unanswered goals. Sam Whin put on a show all day, with the help of Lachlan Allison showing so skills up at CHF. Some good footy came out of today and gives us a good look at what the 2's boys are capable of. Onto next week, up and about, go tiges.
