Round 6 (31/5/2025) Hay vs Moulamein, in Moulamein
A Grade (by Ellen Parr)
Hay 65 defeated Moulamein 54
Hay’s A Grade side continued their strong form with a convincing 65–54 win over Moulamein on the weekend, showcasing grit, determination, and excellent teamwork across all four quarters. The match was evenly contested in the early stages, but Hay’s defensive pressure began to take its toll, with the team capitalising on numerous turnovers to gain momentum and build a steady lead. Emily Caughey was recognised with the Lani Houston Consulting Umpires Award for her strong impact off the bench. Her defensive pressure and ability to lift the team in key moments were instrumental in maintaining Hay’s advantage. The IGA Players’ Player Award went to Giaan Cullen, whose consistent defensive pressure and multiple turnovers didn’t go unnoticed by her teammates. In the goal circle, Kellie Walker stood tall under pressure, earning Jen’s Junk Award for her smart positioning and solid hands. Even when doubled by defenders, Walker managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over with accurate finishing and crucial grabs. Hay showcased well-executed attacking plays and strong defensive pressure across the court, giving Moulamein few easy opportunities. With another win under their belt, Hay will look to carry this momentum into their next game against top of the ladder.
B Grade (by Bron Hicks)
Hay 33 defeated Moulamein 27
B grade remain top on the ladder this week after an intense game against Moulamein. Both teams played goal for goal in the first quarter with the score at the first break being an even 5 goals each. After returning the court, the Hay team knew that they needed to communicate more, slow down and take control of the game - something that they have been working on. Teagan Morrison (Saltbush Stretch Player’s Player Award) was a key playmaker, moving the ball down from defence and through the centre third, setting the attackers up. This resulting in Hay leading by 9 at the third quarter, which saw some stoppages and called for some interchanges into different positions by the other team. However, by now the Hay girls were into a rhythm and were working simultaneously through the court to get the ball into the attackers. Lisa Lund (Mark McKeon Earthmoving Coach’s Award) directed the ball and teammates around the ring and held her player perfectly, placing her in optimal position for shooting. In the last quarter, Moulamein lifted their game and put the pressure on the Hay girls, getting four quick goals in a row which narrowed the margin. Lucy Shea (Busch Family Players’ Player award) was pivotal in the Centre position and continued to help move the ball down the court in a controlled manner, allowing Hay to come back and win the game by 6 goals. Hay 33 - Moulamein 27.
