Round 15 (16/8/2025) Hay vs Macorna, in Macorma

A Grade (by Ellen Parr)

Hay 51 defeated Macorna 43

With several mid-court players unavailable and others stepping into unfamiliar positions, Hay entered the match uncertain of how things would unfold. Despite the challenges, Hay finished the home-and-away rounds in style, securing an 8-goal victory over Macorna, 51–43. Hay held the lead for the entire game, starting strongly in the opening quarter and sealing the result with a dominant final term. Strong defensive efforts right across the court created valuable turnovers and provided the shooters with extra opportunities to convert. Awards: • Lani Houston Consulting: Teagan Morrison • IGA Players’ Player: Ruby Hicks • Jen’s Junk: Giaan Cullen. The win sees Hay finish second on the ladder and head into the first semi-final at home next weekend with confidence and momentum.

B Grade (by Bron Hicks)

Hay 40 defeated Macorna 17

The B grade team had an amazing final game of the GRFNL season with a whopping 23 goal win over the Macorna Tigers. The girls have really found their rhythm as the season ends, with great teamwork and communication amongst the team. Hay began the first quarter settling into the game and although they gained several intercepts from key mid-court players Lani, Jade and Poppy, Hay were not yet in a rhythm and struggled to get the ball down the court to convert the goals. Both Hay and Macorna played majority of the quarter goal for goal until Hay eventually gained a 3-goal lead. A few changes were made, as Emily and Bron came onto the court. The spirit of the girls lifted, and they began to communicate well. Defenders, Teagan and Rhiannon we fantastic in the goal ring, positioning themselves perfectly to win several rebounds. Hay led at half time by 6 goals. As Macorna began to tire and become more frustrated in the third quarter, Hay took advantage and worked harder and harder. The mother-daughter combination of Lisa (Mark McKeon Earthmoving Players’ Player award and Saltbush Stretch Best on Court) and Sienna (Busch Family Coach’s Award) worked extremely hard in the goal ring and became more confident as the game progressed, gaining Hay a 12-goal lead at three quarter time. As the game moved into the last quarter, Hay shifted to another gear and continued their lead, putting all the strategies practiced during the season into momentum, showcasing some fantastic netball skills. The Hay team won the game 40 – 17. This win moved Hay back into second place on the ladder, gaining them a spot in the Semi-Final this Saturday in Hay!

B Reserve Grade (by Leonnie Laracy)

Hay 32 defeated Macorna 26

In a closely contested BR game, Hay had enough in the tank to drag themselves across the line to take out the win. Award winners went to the defensive end who kept their team in the game through their tight defence, strong rebounding and pure desire to get the ball back to the attacking end. Kylie Brettschneider was awarded the Players Player cup. Leslee Grahme took out the Heath Busch Trailers  award, while Jessica Weymouth was awarded the Fraser Dwyer Electrical award and Matilda Nisbet took out the New Crown Hotel award. Hay won 32-26.

C Grade (by Leonnie Laracy)

Hay 46 defeated Macorna 34

C grade had a good day out on Saturday, with strong games across the whole court from all players. Melissa Ovens had a solid game, feeding the goal circle well and was smart with her timing, taking out the Players Player Cup. Lucy Shea was strong through the midcourt and a strong target for Hay and was awarded the New Crown Hotel award. Jo Davies took out the New Crown Hotel award for using her strengths well and outsmarting her opponents. Hay won 46-34

Under 17's (by Jade Auldist)

Hay 53 defeated Macorna 30

The 17s wrapped up their season in style, finishing second on the ladder with a strong 53–30 win. The Peter Mullins Building Award went to Emily Taylor (WA) for her outstanding drives down the court, sharp feeds into the shooters, and constant defensive pressure. The Murrumbidgee Real Estate Award was awarded to Emily Caughey (GD) for her rock-solid defence. She was relentless all game, reading the play beautifully, forcing turnovers, and shutting down the opposition attack. The Hay High Achiever Award went to Hannah Edmonds (WD/WA) who gave 110% across both ends of the court, applying pressure, creating opportunities, and working tirelessly for her team.

Under 14's (by Lani Houston)

Hay 26 defeated Macorna 13

Hay had a great win against Macorna 26-13 for the last round before the finals. Both teams took a little while to find their groove, in the sunny but cool conditions but Hay pushed through to get a lead by 3 goals in the first quarter. Hay maintained this and really brought it home in the final quarter. Emma Brown (A & L Lund Contracting Players Player award) had an outstanding game in Centre. Making intercepts, sticking with her player & proving support all the way down the court. Sophie Griffiths (KROP Coaches Award) is building her confidence & used her speed & agility to get front position in C & WA for some great passes and feeds. Grace Auldist (Lions Canteen Best Effort) put her practice into play with some good holding up of her attacker & moving front to gain intercepts. All girls worked well and adjusted their game with positional changed. The girls will have a few areas to work on to prepare for the semi-finals but will be excited for the match up against Murrabit at home.

Under 12’s (by Leonnie Laracy)

Hay 23 defeated Macorna 20

The last game of the season for under 12’s was a great one. Hay took out a terrific win in a high scoring game - 23 to 20. Maeve Harrison has had a great season and ended it in the perfect way, taking out the M & S Bus Services award. Sophie Griffiths also had her best game proving she is ready to step up into 14s next year and won the Sarah Bunyan Hairdressing award, while Nylah Phillips will be a defensive weapon for her team next year and was awarded the Two Billy Buttons award. Congratulations to all of the children who participated and contributed to the Under 12s Season. Thanks also to all of the Junior Coaches that helped from week to week, you all made it a fantastic Season.
