Round 3 (10/5/2025) Hay vs Ultima, in Ultima

A Grade (by Ellen Parr)

Ultima 56 defeated Hay 50

In a tightly contested match, Ultima came out on top with a 56-50 victory in a high-scoring game. Both teams brought intensity and skill to the court, keeping the scoreboard ticking and spectators engaged throughout. Ultima held a narrow lead after the first quarter, 12-10, before both sides locked in at 26 all heading into halftime. The third quarter saw Ultima pull slightly ahead, 40-37, setting the stage for a competitive final term. Despite pressure and effort from the Lions girls across the court, Ultima held strong to secure the six-point win. Hannah Stewart was named IGA’s Players’ Player and also received the Lani Houston Consulting Umpires’ Award for her tireless work on centre passes and sharp feeding into the circle. Kellie Walker earned the Jen’s Healthy Junk Award for her dominant positioning and contested grabs in the goal circle. The team continues to grow in cohesion, with promising signs across the court. Their attacking play was looking much smoother, while the defensive unit stood strong, forcing turnovers and providing reliable support. Improved movement through the midcourt rounded out a strong team performance.

B Grade (by Bron Hicks)

Ultima 40 defeated Hay 35

The B Grade team faced a tough challenge on Saturday against a strong and physical Ultima side. From the first whistle, it was clear it would be a hard contest, with both teams going goal for goal to finish the first quarter with even scores. Teagan Morrison (Saltbush Stretch Best on Court) once again delivered a standout performance in defence, pulling off several crucial intercepts and rebounds that were converted into valuable goals. Despite their efforts, Hay trailed by four goals at halftime, feeling the intensity of Ultima’s pressure. In the second half, the Hay side showed impressive resilience. Lani Houston (Busch Family Coach’s Award), was instrumental in wing defence, using her speed and composure to disrupt Ultima’s play and create opportunities for her teammates. Rhiannon Moore (Mark McKeon Earthmoving Players’ Player award) worked tirelessly in defence and had a great third quarter where she gained countless rebounds. Despite their determination and a strong all-round effort, Hay couldn't close the gap, with Ultima’s accurate shooting and physicality proving too much for the Hay girls who were defeated 40 – 35.

B Reserve Grade (by Leonnie Laracy)

Hay 44 defeated Ultima 42

Ultima brought their toughest bodies to the court this week and got away with an early lead. It took all of Hay’s discipline and focus to take the lead back and all of their grit to keep it, eventually winning by 2 goals. Hannah Jamieson stood strong under the ring and was also accurate in her attempts and took out both the Players Player cup and the Heath Busch Trailers award. Leslee Grahme was the engine of the team bringing the ball down to the goal circle whilst also scoring goals in the absence of Trish Jamieson who is out injured. Leslee was awarded the New Crown Hotel award. The Fraser Dwyer Electrical award was taken out by Jessica Weymouth who was solid in the backline, and created turnovers just when we needed them most. Hay took a narrow victory 44-42 but proved what great team work can accomplish.

C Grade (by Leonnie Laracy)

Hay 38 defeated Ultima 37

C grade took nearly 3/4 to find their best netball, but it came at a pivotal moment. It was a competitive game, one which could have went either way. Hay trailed all game, but then Hay took a breath and realised they were capable, and made it happen by 1 goal. Maddy Lugsdin found her groove, used her height and made it difficult for her opposition and was awarded the Crown Hotel Players Player cup. Kodi Scott stood up when the pressure was on and played like a true leader in goals and was awarded the Tantrum Hair and Beauty award, while Jo Davies played like she hasn’t had a 10 year absence from netball and did everything right in GK and took out the Moulamein Yabby Bistro award. In a true team effort Hay took the slightest of wins 38-37.

Under 17's (by Jade Auldist)

Hay 56 defeated Ultima 22

The Under-17s claimed a 56–22 win over Ultima, setting the tone early by limiting them to just two goals in the opening quarter. From there, the Hay girls found their rhythm and continued to build momentum throughout the game. Hannah Edmonds was awarded the Hay High Achievers Coach’s Award for her relentless pressure, sharp leads, and high energy in Wing Defence.
Sienna Lund received the Peter Mullins Building Players’ Player Award thanks to her quick movement, accurate shooting, and fierce determination in Goal Attack.
Emily Caughey earned the Murrumbidgee Real Estate Award for her standout performance in Goal Defence, where she consistently shut down scoring chances, applied pressure, and transitioned the ball with strength and composure.

Under 14's (by Lani Houston)

Hay 37 defeated Ultima 25

The Hay girls had a cracking match against Ultima winning convincingly 37-25 after coming from behind and without some key players. Ultima came out strong with the Hay girls taking a bit of time to get their groove. Hay trailed by 4 goals but in the second quarter hit the lead with great team work, defensive pressure and strong leads. Rachael Taylor in GA (Lions Canteen Players Player) shot 12 goals for the quarter supported capably in goal by Angel Clarke (A&L Lund Coaches Award) who created good leads and space in the circle as well as shooting goals herself. The girls put into play some attacking moves in and around the circle from practice that paid off. India Phillips (KROP Award) played her best game in centre being an option for passes through the mid court and directing lobs and direct passes into the shooters. An impressive win by the girls across the whole court against a strong Ultima side. The girls stayed focused playing their own game, contesting balls and supporting each other. Congratulation girls a well deserved win. The game was played in the true spirit of the Headspace round and the Hay girls played with resilience and care.

Under 12’s (by Leonnie Laracy)

Hay 34 defeated Ultima 3

Hay went up against Ultima in hot conditions, but that didn’t deter our team of champions as they pushed through the heat and played at a very high standard. Issy Sandow had a great game in goals taking out the Sarah Bunyan Hairdressing award while Nina Schiller was predicting play and intercepting the ball well and earned the Two Billy Buttons award. The Meg’s Laundry Lounge award went to Elsbeth Kerr who is finding her feet in the defensive end and had an outstanding game. Hay won 34 to 3. Well done!!
