Round 12 (26/7/2025) Hay vs Moulamein, in Hay
A Grade (by Ellen Parr)
Hay 47 defeated Moulamein 45
Hay Holds Strong in Cold Conditions for a Gritty Win
In cold and breezy conditions, Hay rose to the challenge despite missing key players and trialling new combinations across the court. The team adapted quickly, taking control early and maintaining their lead throughout a tightly contested game. Hay’s adaptability and whole team effort allowed them to secure a 47–45 victory. Awards: Lani Houston Consulting Umpires Award & Jen’s Junk Players’ Player – Sophie Stephens - Sophie put in a massive effort, applying relentless pressure all game. She consistently disrupted the opposition’s strong shooting combination, forcing crucial turnovers through her persistence and grit. Jen’s Junk Award – Ruby Hicks - Ruby delivered a strong performance, placing pressure not only on her direct opponent but across the attacking line. Her clever floating defence created disruption, leading to valuable tips and intercepts that helped swing momentum Hay’s way. A gutsy team performance all round, showing the strength and adaptability of this squad when it counts.
B Grade (by Sharon Cox)
Moulamein 38 defeated Hay 31
In a hard-fought contest, Hay faced Moulamein and were narrowly defeated. The absence of several key players created obstacles for Hay, disrupting their usual strategies and game plan. However, strong performances from Leslee Grahme (Busch Family Umpires Award), Jade Auldist (Mark McKeon Earthmoving Players Player Award), and Poppy Barnes (Saltbush Stretch Coach’s Award) helped keep the team competitive throughout the match. The match was a back-and-forth affair from start to finish, with both teams exchanging the lead multiple times. Hay was down by just one at the end of the first quarter, showcasing the tight nature of the contest. As the game progressed, the lead continued to shift between the two teams, with each side pushing hard to gain control. Hay worked hard all over the court with everyone adjusting to the different player combinations. Leslee Grahme and Ruby Stewart stepped up to play a pivotal role in defense which left Teagan Morrison free to show how versatile she is and moved to the attacking end. Jade Auldist and Poppy Barnes contributed significantly to both attack and transition play. It wasn’t until the final 5 minutes that Moulamein was able to capitalize on Hay’s errors and seize the lead for good. The last few minutes saw Moulamein stretch their advantage, maintaining control to secure the win. Despite the narrow loss, Hay showed great team effort throughout the match. Every player gave their all, adapting to the challenging conditions and staying competitive right until the final whistle. With this level of determination and unity, Hay will certainly bounce back stronger in future matches.
B Reserve Grade (by Leonnie Laracy)
Hay 49 defeated Moulamein 25
Hay BR started well and took an early lead, and by half time the score was 27 to 12. All 3 players were this weeks award winners, Leslee - Players Player Cup and Heath Busch Trailers award, Katie winning the New Crown Hotel award and Kylie the Fraser Dwyer Electrical award. Hay took a good win 49-25.

Lucy Shea was making good choices throughout the court in Centre and guiding her team from one end to the other and was awarded with the Players Player Cup. Under 17's (by Jade Auldist)
Hay 50 defeated Moulamein 16
The 17s put in another impressive performance on Saturday, securing a 50–16 win. Despite the icy winds and tough conditions, our shooters found their rhythm early. Defensive pressure was relentless, while the midcourt linked perfectly from defence to attack with strong drives and smart ball movement. The Murrumbidgee Real Estate Players’ Player Award went to Evie Creighton, who used her speed, agility, and pressure to keep the opposition under constant pressure. The Peter Mullins Building Award was awarded to Emily Taylor for her precision feeds and smart decision-making in the mid court. Poppy Barnes received the Hay High Achievers Award for her tireless work in Centre, before stepping into Goal Defence in the final quarter and taking on the challenge with success.
Under 14's (by Lani Houston)
Hay 39 defeated Moulamein 6
The Hay girls had a great start to their match shooting 13 goals and keeping Moulamein scoreless. This week saw Lyla Swan (A&L Lund Contracting Players Player) back and she had an impressive performance shooting goals in GS and then transitioned to GK showing her versatility as a player. It was also great to have Angel Clarke back from her ankle injury and moving well in the circle. Rachael Taylor (KROP Coaches Award) showed her accurate shooting, rebounding and ability to assist the ball down the court. Hay also applied great defensive pressure, gaining intercepts and then converting those by working the ball efficiently back into attack. Isobel Pearson (Lions Canteen Best Effort Award) skills and confidence have been building and her hands over the ball and improvement in providing support to move the ball into attack made an impact. All girls played well, it was difficult to single out performances. The support for each other and ability for players to adjust to different positions has been a real strength for the team, especially adapting when players are injured or away.
