GRFNL Round 3 Preview

WANDELLA and Murrabit will fight to break their season ‘duck’ in Saturday’s third round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers Football Netball League. 

The Wandella Bombers have home-ground advantage for the clash which starts at 2.25pm. 

In round two, Wandella was on the end of 108-58 loss on Ultima’s turf. 

The Bombers will be looking for more scoring output after Mitch Collins was the only multiple goalkicker against the Roos on two. 

One of the most daunting tasks for Wandella will be at full-back. 

Jarred Schlitz was named to line up against Murrabit’s gun recruit Damian Cupido. 

A five-goal haul by Cupido against Hay has him leading the league’s goalkicking race on 11. 

The former Brisbane Lions and Essendon forward will aim to capitalise on the work of ruck-rover Dustin Blake, Tobie Cameron at half-back, Sean Gillen, and wingman Mitchell Laursen. 

The Blues named Jono Aujard in the centre, and Ed Aujard at centre half-back. 

In-form players for Wandella include Ricky Cathie, half-forward Archer Lancaster, ruckman Lee Pollock, ruck-rover Russell Rich, Darren Rushton and Tim Robinson. 

The Bombers also have Kane Timmins to rove the contests, and Jayden Crellin to intercept across half-back. 

The ladder-leading Moulamein is at home against the third-placed Hay. 

After an inaccurate first half, Moulamein dominated the third quarter of its clash at Macorna. 

The Swans slammed on 5.2 to just two points to take control. 

Andy Silva, Daniel Aarsman, Lochlan Prentice and Khy Stovell were all amongst the goals. 

A talented Swans line-up includes former Leitchville-Gunbower midfielder/forward Blake Azzopardi named at centre half-forward. 

Other players to watch for Moulamein include Nathan Buckley in the centre, rover Amos Farrell, Kaylem Hartley at centre half-back, and Morgan Turvey in midfield. 

A major threat to the Swans chances will be Fergus Cattanach who kicked three goals and was best afield in Hay’s win at Murrabit. 

Dean Aylett, centreman Dom Booth, captain Brad Pocock and Daniel Stewart were best for the Lions last round. 

James Moran in the ruck, James Eddy at full-back, and Daniel Zambon at centre half-forward all have key roles to play for Hay. 

Ultima is on home turf again to face Macorna. 

The Kangaroos will be determined to bound to a hat-trick of wins. 

Key players for Ultima include Thomas Bull in the centre, rover Zac Cattlin, Jack Delmenico, Ryan Devereux, and Jack Fletcher at centre half-back. 

The Roos also have Mitch and Tyler Makepeace in hot form. 

Ultima will look to Jamie Nicholas and Jye Purtill to lead the attack. 

Macorna will be fired up after a one-goal lead at half-time against Moulamein ended in a 37-point defeat. 

Tigers’ captain Malcolm Neiwand kicked three goals and was among the best against the Swans, along with Jack Featherby, Lachlan Ritchie, Michael Roberts, Grady Smith and Toby Whinfield. 

The Tigers also have Nick Ingleton in the ruck, Anthony Free in attack, and Liam Roberts roving.
