“Raiders have still got time To Roar in 2024”

 “OMG”, did that really happen, our luck finally turned the way in our favour! Scenes resembling a Grand Final win took place as soon as the final siren sounded with players, spectators, kids, scoreboards, anybody and everybody converging onto the ground all celebrating the Raiders first win in 30 games and it was well deserved too. It would have been daylight robbery if they’d lost that game as they led all day but were pushed to the limit by their opponents right up to the final siren! Coincidentally our last win was against Tyntynder in round 16, 2022 so the stars were aligned for it to happen again! Things got a bit tense in the final term as the opposition got within a point and thoughts were not again surely, but after gaining possession & dashing outta the centre was I think Kye Attwell who spotted young Will Lake up forward who took the mark and he coolly went back, took aim at the big sticks and slotted it through, showed a lot of maturity that did! His goal made it a difference of 7pts which was enough for the Raiders to win the game, so congrats to the whole senior team on a fantastic win, one for the ages.

The Senior awards went to Kye Attwell (Counterpoint “Man of the Day”), great game by Kye who put himself in the action all day and reckon he jagged the “Mark of the Year” also, fantastic year by Kye after missing all of 2022 due to injury, Jack Shannon (Mitre 10 Award). Jack Thrum (Raiders Towel), and James “Jimbo” Martin (Barham Hotel).

The Reserves got back on the winners list which maintained their spot in the top five, but, staying there all hinges on the a result from this weeks game between Swan Hill & Kerang. Awards went to Matt Lolicato (Wes Hare Spraying Services Scooby of the Day”), Blake Watts (Matsey’s Hotel), Jacob Barrington (Barham Hotel), and Marc O’Neill (Intersport voucher).

The Colts lost but they come up against a side who were just above them and were more intent on getting the win. Awards went to Nick Frankling (Raiders Fishing Comp voucher), Riley Davis (Don Taylor Pen), Hugo Gray (Lanes Elect, Socks), Clay Watts (Wilma Bott Canteen voucher), and Declan Luks got the (Coach’s Cash).

Okay, footy is over for the Seniors and Colts, but the Ressy’s (hopefully) and Under 15’s will represent the Raiders on the footy field, plus we also have some netball teams in which is a great effort by all teams, so if you can support them please do so!

On Sunday we held our vote counting for the Best & Fairest awards in all grades of footy and netball, the attendance was not as great as we thought it would be but those that were enjoyed themselves! Maybe there were some who were still a bit doughy from the night before! Winners were Seniors – Jack Shannon, Reserves – Marc O’Neill, Colts – Nick Frankling, Under 15’s – Jye Hamilton

Netball: A Grade – Tlarnee Lake, A Reserve – Ella Whelan, B Grade – Eve Snowden, B Reserve – Alicia Atkins, Under 15’s – Taylah Pratt Nener, Under 13’s – Stella Ettershank, Under 13’s Reserves – Frida Mathers.

So congrats to all those winners, remember Presentation Day is the 22^nd September at the football ground, different format this year with kids being able to attend, lunch and refreshments will be available!
