Kerang FNC notes
Round 6, 2025
Today the club makes its only trip south this season thanks to what looks to be an exciting day on the field and court as the Blues take on Cohuna.
We congratulate Archer Dibsdale as he plays his 50th Senior Game for the Blues today – Go well Arch!
Last weekend was a big day for the club when we took on Woorinen, thanks to our Grandparents and Special Friends Day and Finest Games Night. Thank you to all involved in organising both of these popular events.
FOOTBALL
There were some special milestones for the Seniors in their 82-point loss. Jayden and Austin Crellin played their first senior game together for the Blues, whilst Nick Oliver made his senior debut. Rylee Gitsham, Jonah McKnight, Marty Kelly, Cooper Meehan, Flynn McKnight and Tyson Clingan were best on ground for the hosts.
The Reserves battled throughout the game in what was a 224-point loss to the Tigers. Tyler Meehan, Dylan Threlfall, Patrick Oliver, Harrison Saunders Jordan Clingan and Eddie May were best on ground.
As with previous weeks, our Colts side battled hard against a bigger and more experienced midfield in their 130-point loss. Saxon Walker (Zorbas’s Pizza), Cam McAlpin (Murray Mallee Woodfired Pizza), Zarne Thamm (McKnight Family), Eddie May (Walker’s IGA), Deklyn Jolly (KFNC Canteen Committee), Declan Heffer (Cam’s Detailing) and Oscar Greenwood (The Fiit Space) received awards for their efforts.
The Under 15s continued their good form, recording a 58-point win to begin proceedings on the main oval. Beau Roberts led in front of goal with three majors, with awards going to Declan Heffer, Saxon Walker (Gordy Family), Oscar Greenwood (Cam’s Detailing), Campbell McAlpin (KFNC Canteen Committee), Cooper Gray (Zorba’s Pizza) and Bryce Gordy.
Over on the second oval, a large crowd watched the Under 12s defy their larger opponents and triple the number of coaches on the field in pushing the Tigers in what turned out to be a gallant 28-point loss. Rory Fernee (Rumbold’s Earthmoving), Ollie McKnight (Kerang Plumbing and Pumps), Lachlan Stevenson (Zorba’s Pizza and Murray Mallee Woodfired Pizza), Ollie Hetherington (KFNC Canteen Committee) Bentley Williams (Austelle Farms), Mason Rumbold (McKnight Family) and Archer Verhey (1% Award) were the award winners.
NETBALL
In what shaped up to be a key match, our A Grade side etched out a four-goal win to remain undefeated in season 2025. Led by a best on court effort from Maddy Black, it was an intense game from the first whistle! Woorinen came out strong, putting early pressure on our team, but our girls rose to the challenge and held a narrow lead by the end of the first quarter.
Throughout the game, the team worked hard to maintain their lead, and although the scoreboard showed we were ahead, the tension was high with spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Our defence stood tall under immense pressure, making crucial stops despite the odds. There was movement through the midcourt as new players rolled on, but they were quick to adapt; watching the play closely and taking on feedback from the coaches to settle into the game effectively.
Ranga and 1% award winner, Denise Robers held their ground in the ring, using smart movement and teamwork to keep the scoreboard ticking over and secure the win.
It was not our day for the A Reserve team, with their eight-goal loss the girls’ first of the season. There was intense pressure up and down the court from both teams, however we will walk away from this game and know that next time will be different. Thanks again to Chloe Meehan and Laela Grayling for helping us out, with Emma Chamberlain (Legend Apparel), Jamison Wise (Royal Hotel) and Hallie Murphy (Mat Coates 1% Award) the award winners.
It was a tough day for B Grade in a 71-goal loss. Lots of position changes were made across the court, working to find the best combinations; however it was a great job by everyone on their willingness to adapt and working hard to the end. Brylee Clingan (Mat Coates Electrical 1% Award) and Ebony Hipworth (The Little Shoe Shop) received awards for their efforts.
The 17 and Under side played out a 37-all draw in a match where teamwork and encouragement was evident right down the court. Our defense was sharp and clean, and our attackers worked tirelessly. Laela Grayling (Lakey's Apparel) constantly delivered high intensity and turnovers, and all team players received an award for their incredible game and sportsmanship!
The 15 and Under faced a super tough game in the sun during their 37-goal loss. Our set plays are looking positive, and despite the result, everyone should be super proud. Rachael Peacock (Zorba’s Pizza), Keira Wise (Chino’s), Brooklyn Buckow (KFNC Canteen Committee), Bella Wise (Chesnais Family) and Macey Hall (Gray's Bakery) were award winners.
The 13 and Under side made it two wins in a row, thanks to a 12-goal victory against tough opposition. We played well as a team and came away with a convincing win. Ivy Velleley (Kerang Plumbing and Pumps), Carla Peacock (Rumbold Earthmoving), Tahlia Rumbold (Velleley Cranes) and Taneisha Thamm (KFNC Canteen Committee) received awards.
The 13 and Under Reserve played together all the way down the court in their seven-goal loss. We had a few different shooters today, who all played great and had a go at shooting, whilst our defenders made the other teamwork hard and earn their goals. Arlie Gitsham (Kerang Plumbing & Pumps), Jessica Bilton (Rumbolds), Emmy Murphy (Zorbas Pizza) and Chelsea Gordy (Drew Robertson Plastering) received awards.
