Swans to Power on to the Big Dance

This Saturday, Moulamein travels to Ultima to achieve a feat that hasn’t happened for a few years. We will overcome and defeat Ultima in the seniors' football and move on to the Grand Final.

We will have a near-full-strength side; with this in mind, we will be unbeatable this weekend. When the engine room of Amos, Heath, Cory (I will be fit), and Luke, we have the skill and grace to show Ultima how football is played. It will be significant as Hay has already beaten Ultima and can repeat.

We also have the B-grade netballers in the second semi-final, who are a very talented team. This year, They have proved that Murrabit holds no fears for this champion team. We are on the verge of greatness when you have already beaten them and run them very close last time. They have some very talented players who back up the senior (A-grade) well, which means they are great.

It was an older supporter's joy when the U17.5 powered home to victory with a very impressive display. It reminded me of the late '60s or early '70s when winning the Grand Finals was great, and we had many talented footballers who went on to bigger and better things.

It would be remiss of me to say that the A-grade game wasn’t a sizzler, as it had all the attributes of a team that will go far in this final series. It was a pleasure to watch our shooting, and the umpiring was a joy to behold at last, some great umpires who directed the game exceptionally well. One hopes SJ’s ankle improves as she is a powerhouse in the backline. Meg and Maddie in the forwards are a great combination, along with the midfield—a great team. I proudly waved my red and white banner and cheered a few times. I must be coming out of my shell.

It was good to see some old familiar faces at the ground on Saturday, and I am sure they went home with the same dream I have about Moulamein premierships. I was a happy man Saturday after the games and look forward to the second semi-final this week.

    Seniors

The seniors should be fit and ready today as they have rested for a week, and all those little sore spots have gone. This is one of the best sides I have seen at Moulamein, and most skilled. This week, we must be positive, proactive, and switched on. There is some feeling around town that we are going all the way today, and I believe we shall succeed and go one step further than last year.

You should read and remember these Targets for Your Pre-Game in both Netball and Football

    1. Confidence

One of the six sources of confidence is preparation., “Pressure is something you feel when you don’t know what you’re doing.”

Remember to overcome the pressure and play confidently by highlighting the hard work, sweat equity, and diligent hours you have invested to prepare for this game. Remember your collective strengths and skills to match up against your opponents.

    2. Cohesion

“Team beats talent when talent isn’t a team.” A united team is a powerful team.

    3. Concentration

It is easy for footballers to get focused on the wrong things. This is especially true when players are focused on things they can’t control (i.e., referees, weather, opponents' actions, winning or losing).

    4. Commitment

You want your team to be resilient, persevere through momentum shifts, and fight. That’s a commitment – to each other, the game, and giving your all.

A key to inspiring such commitment is to instil belief. Tell your teammates how much you believe in them and why. Belief fuels the fire of commitment.

I AM NOT TELLING YOU IT’S GOING TO BE EASY; I AM TELLING YOU IT’S GOING TO BE WORTH IT

    U17.5

It had to be the game of the year for the team. Everyone combined well and was well led by Marto (BOG) in the forward line. Ably backed up by Choccie, Joey, and Ethan 5 goals. It was a team performance today; everyone played exceptionally well, and they now know there is no I in a team. If we play like that in the preliminary final next week, there is no telling what we can do. Just play Moulamein football as it is attractive and, at its best, fabulous.

I am confident that this side will make Moulamein proud in the finals, ensuring we have a team that plays well and supports the seniors with some backup players.

I want you all to remember this: -

My COMPETITION is not against the footballer beside me. It is against the FOOTBALLER inside me.

Best Players: - Lachie Martin, Joseph Herold, Lochlan Prentice, Ethan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Alford, Jacob Skipsey

Goal Kickers: Ethan Miller 5, Lochlan Prentice 3, Lachie Martin 2, Ethan Fitzpatrick, Elijah Prentice, Jacob Skipsey 1

    Final Score Moulamein 13 – 10 – 88 v Wandella 7 – 5 – 47

    Netball

    A Grade

I could not find a BOC today, as all players contributed to a victory that will go down as the best final ever seen at Moulamein. So, I have (this is my opinion only) rated each player, keeping in mind that we still have two games to go.

GS – Maddy Wild, with a great game rating of 9.2, showed her class when it mattered and shot well.

GA – Meg Rooney had a fabulous game rating of 9.2, excellent shooting, and showed her skills around the court.

WA – Breigh Vistarini, a rating of 9.0, has to be the quiet achiever of the team, controlled the forward line and was in all parts of the game.

C – Courtney Atkins, the general, rated 9.1, encouraged all the players around her and was instrumental in many attacking and defensive moves.

WD – Ally-Mae Buckley had a great game rating of 8.9, showed her superior skills around the court and intercepted extremely well.

GD – Matika Mitchell had a superb game, a rating of 9.2, and it never ceases to one how high she jumps, blocks, and intercepts; she is the general in defence.

GK – Sarah Jane Carmichael, a rating of 8.5, was injured in the third quarter and had to come off was going to be one of the standouts of the backline.

INT – Elly Henery came on to replace SJ and was impactful and immediately kept a tight rein on the GS. It would be unfair to rate her, but her performance was fantastic (heading for a high 8+) when she entered the court.

INT – Jorja Henry, didn’t see if she came on, but she is an excellent all-around and skilled netballer.

Coach – Stevie Bibby – I have never seen her so happy with the team, smiling, and euphoric with the team's victory.

There is still room for perfection, so keep on keeping on girls.

Final Score: - Moulamein 44 defeated Ultima 33

    B Grade

The girls supported the A-grade and the 17 and under sides today as they made it to the second semi-final this week. The girls are a great team, and there is no more that I can say except to play Moulamein Netball in the final, and you will be victorious. Just listen to the coach and follow the team plan, which means that playing in the grand final is just on the edge of achievement.

Good luck (not that you will need it); I would be there on Saturday with my little banner, but I think I lost it.

    17 & Under

Best Players: - A great team effort

It wasn’t the girls' day today as they were, in the end, outclassed by Wandella. However, assuming we keep the group together, a very young side will deal out defeats more than most. Get around the other sides and barrack like all good Moulamein people do.

Thank you for an excellent season.

Moulamein 28 Lost To Wandella 45

Hot Dog Challenge is back this year.

It was the first semi-final, so we deserved a great hot dog, and we got one, so a 9.5 is good.

Next time at Moulamein, stop in for a steak sandwich; they were an excellent repast.
